Planting Trees in Alberta

Mistahae Lake

Mistahae Lake Fire Planting project will aim to plant about half a million trees on provincial land in the Slave Lake Forest area of Alberta. The forest is a unique and extremely remote part of Canada’s territory which is over 350km from the nearest city. These planting sites were logged and planted around the year 2000 before the McMillan wildfire complex burned several patches in 2019. We believe that this project will be beneficial to the area long term, provide ecosystem services, and improve the aesthetic of the surrounding landscape. The project proposes to use planting as an effective method to reforest the land and eventually return the land to a conifer dominated forest to enhance biodiversity..
